1. Flotation process of molybdenite

When flotating molybdenite, non-polar hydrocarbon oils such as kerosene and diesel are usually used as collectors, and pine oil is used as a frother for flotation. If only a frother is added during flotation, the concentrate can also be floated out.

In general, the raw molybdenite ore is crushed and ground to a suitable particle size, and qualified molybdenum concentrate can be obtained after roughing and several times of fine selection. However, molybdenite is relatively soft, and it is easy to adhere to the surface of gangue mineral particles during the grinding process, which is easy to cause over-crushing. In addition, due to the good natural floatability of molybdenite, even if the particle size reaches 0.6mm, as long as 1% of molybdenite is exposed on the surface, it can float smoothly, which can easily cause gangue minerals to enter the concentrate and affect the quality of the concentrate. Therefore, molybdenum ore beneficiation often adopts the process of rough grinding and rough selection. The rough concentrate produced by rough selection will be returned to the grinding system for re-grinding, so that it is fully dissociated and then selected, that is, the process of stage grinding and stage selection is adopted.

2. Main flotation equipment of molybdenite

According to the working principle, flotation equipment can be roughly divided into three categories: mechanical flotation equipment, flotation column and reactor/separator flotation equipment. Mechanical flotation equipment is equipped with a stirrer, while flotation column belongs to flotation equipment without mechanical stirrer.

1. Mechanical stirring flotation machine for molybdenum ore

Mechanical stirring flotation machine can be divided into two types according to the different inflation methods: mechanical stirring self-aspiration type and mechanical stirring inflation type. The difference between these two types of flotation machines lies in the different ways of aeration. The self-aspirated flotation machine uses the negative pressure generated by the rotation of the impeller to suck air into the pipeline. The air passes through the pipeline and enters the ore pulp, thus completing the aeration process of flotation. The aerated flotation machine relies on an external fan to supply air for flotation. Compared with the aerated flotation machine, the disadvantage of the self-aspirated flotation machine is that the aeration volume is insufficient and the flotation efficiency is low.

2. Flotation column for molybdenite

The basic structure of the flotation column is roughly cylindrical at the top and conical at the bottom. An aerator is installed at the junction of the cone and the column. The slurry is fed from the top, and the air enters the aerator through the annular wind chamber and the inflation duct. The bubbles entering the slurry from the aerator diffuse evenly along the entire cross-section of the column, and slowly float upward through the downward flowing slurry. In this convection process, the particles collide and contact with the bubbles, and the bubbles selectively adhere to the particles. After the particle-carrying bubbles float to the liquid surface, they gather into a foam layer, overflow or scrape out to obtain hydrophobic products, and the hydrophilic particles are discharged from the bottom of the column together with the slurry.

The characteristics of the flotation column sorting process are:

① Since the air is fed in by an external compressor and passes through the aerator, it can ensure that a sufficient amount of air enters the slurry, and the bubbles can be evenly dispersed.

②The operation control of the flotation column is achieved by adjusting the air volume, so the air volume has a great influence on the operation of the flotation column.

③The aerator is a key component of the flotation column, which directly affects the aeration volume, the diffusion degree of bubbles and the working efficiency of the flotation column.

Molybdenite flotation process and flotation equipment

Compared with traditional flotation machines, flotation columns have the following advantages:

①Easy to control the thickness of the foam layer, bubble size, and bubble quantity, and the flotation process is simple;

②Generally, it takes 8-12 times to use a flotation machine for molybdenum selection, while it only takes about 3 times to use a flotation column;

③The environment of dynamic collision between bubbles and ore particles and static separation of bubble-particle combination in the flotation column is better, which is conducive to the selection of fine or micro-fine molybdenum ores;

④The flotation column is easy to realize automatic control, so it is more suitable for the selection of molybdenum ores.

At present, the flotation equipment of molybdenum ore dressing plants is still mainly mechanical agitation flotation machines. In the roughing and scavenging parts, the aeration mechanical agitation flotation machines are mainly used, and in the concentrating part, the self-aspiration mechanical agitation flotation machines are mainly used. Some large-scale concentrators have begun to successfully apply flotation columns to industrial production and have achieved good technical and economic indicators. Flotation columns are more suitable for use in the concentrating part, which can effectively improve the grade of molybdenum concentrate and metal recovery rate.
