Copper mines are no exception. The chemical composition of copper minerals after becoming tailings is relatively complex. It will contain a large amount of silicon, sulfur, calcium, aluminum, iron and other valuable elements, which have certain mining value. Therefore, copper tailings need to be re-sorted to recover them and promote the comprehensive utilization of copper.
Common copper mine tailings re-selection process mainly include: sulfide flotation and leaching There are two methods, let’s learn about them together below!
Sulphide flotation method for re-selecting copper tailings" Tailings mainly consist of grinding copper oxide slurry, adding sulfide for sulfide, and then adding xanthate collector for flotation.
When copper oxide is in sodium sulfide solution, it adsorbs HS- and S2- ions, forming a layer of copper sulfide covering on the surface of the mineral. layer, then xanthate adsorbs the oxidized copper, and finally achieves separation.
However, before sulfide flotation, copper tailings need to be pre-enriched and a large amount of gangue thrown out to improve the copper selection grade.
Re-selection of copper tailings by leaching method is to convert the copper compounds in the solid phase into copper ions in the liquid phase, and then convert the copper tailings in the leaching solution Metallic copper is extracted. Depending on the leaching agent, the available leaching methods include acid leaching, ammonia leaching, bacterial leaching and electrochemical leaching, but the two most commonly used are acid leaching and ammonia leaching.
Acid leaching and then selecting copper:Dilute sulfuric acid is often used as the leaching agent, which is mainly suitable for treating acidic gangue. For copper oxide ores, the method has a high copper leaching rate, a low price of leaching agents, and simple processes and operations. However, the scope of use is narrow and it is only suitable for processing simple copper oxide ores. It also requires low calcium, magnesium and impurity iron contents, and the leaching selectivity is relatively poor.
Ammonia leaching and then copper selection: It can directly process copper tailings, or it can also reduce and roast the tailings before leaching with ammonia. The ammonia leaching method is suitable for treating copper oxide ores with higher alkaline gangue content and more silt. The ammonia leaching method has relatively high selectivity for metallic copper and alkaline gangue components, and there are fewer impurity metal ions in the leach solution. However, this method has high requirements on equipment and high energy consumption.
The above is the process method for re-selecting copper from copper tailings. In actual copper tailings, there are also a variety of valuable elements. According to the analysis of the mining value of each mineral, it can also be selected through mineral processing methods. Extract gold, iron, silver, wollastonite, fluorite and other minerals. No matter what kind of tailings is being re-processed, it is necessary to understand the recyclable value of the tailings and, if the conditions are met, conduct a beneficiation test and design Suitable tailings re-selection process plan to achieve maximum benefits.
