With the continuous mining of iron ore, high-grade, low-impurity, easy-to-select iron ore is becoming increasingly exhausted, and high-impurity difficult-to-select iron ore has become the main development target. Phosphorus is an important impurity in iron ore. If you want to effectively obtain high-quality iron concentrate, you need to carry out dephosphorization. This article focuses on a certain phosphorus-containing limonite ore and introduces its limonite iron beneficiation iron dephosphorization process.

High-phosphorus limonite ore properties

The iron minerals in the ore are mainly hematite, followed by magnetite, iron silicate, iron carbonate and pyrite; the gangue minerals are mainly hornblende, dolomite, calcite, pyroxene, followed by common pyroxene and diopside, with a small amount of olivine, sericite, chlorite, tourmaline, quartz, etc.

Through experimental analysis, it was determined that iron is the only recoverable useful element in the ore, which exists in the form of hematite, and the phosphorus content exceeds the standard. Therefore, the ore must be iron-reducing. Through strong magnetic separation, gravity separation and flotation tests on its ore samples, it was not possible to obtain the ideal phosphorus removal effect. Finally, it was decided to adopt the roasting-leaching process, and the process is: raw ore-drying-roasting-water quenching-grinding-leaching-drying. Among them, the role of water quenching is to prevent the ore from oxidizing in the air after roasting, and the role of grinding is to grind the lumps formed during roasting and water quenching.

High phosphorus limonite beneficiation process

High phosphorus limonite roasting process: During the roasting process, the roasting temperature is 1000℃ and the roasting time is 15min, which can effectively improve the iron grade and reduce the phosphorus content. Further phosphorus removal requires leaching treatment.

High phosphorus limonite leaching process: After roasting, the excessive phosphorus content must be removed by leaching. In order to make the phosphorus content of the final product meet the standard, inorganic acid and organic acid were used to develop phosphorus removal leaching agent, and the roasted product was tested for leaching agent concentration, leaching time and leaching liquid-solid ratio. Finally, the leaching agent concentration was determined to be 10%, the leaching time was 5min, and the leaching liquid-solid ratio was 3:1. Under this condition, the indicators of the obtained iron concentrate product are: iron grade 66.43%, phosphorus content 0.131%, and iron recovery rate 98.99%.

The high-phosphorus limonite ore-drying-roasting-water quenching-grinding-leaching-drying process has low investment, simple process, small number of equipment, no need to add reducing agent, leaching agent and water can be recycled, and no tailings are generated.

The above only introduces the process of iron beneficiation and phosphorus removal of high-phosphorus limonite. In the actual beneficiation plant, the process method needs to be determined according to the properties of the iron ore and the characteristics of the impurities. Therefore, a beneficiation test can be carried out first, and the ore sample analysis can be carried out. Then, according to the analysis results, a suitable high-phosphorus limonite beneficiation process plan and a complete set of limonite beneficiation equipment can be designed.
